2012/11/28(三)聯絡簿

Today's focus
(1)Discussion on the video clip of The Help
(2)The meaning of "The Right to Equality"
(3)Reading the Chinese text (Unit 3, Lesson 1)
(4)The right to Freedom

Notice
(1)I gave you the handout for "the right to freedom".  I found some of you hesitated to read it.  It is not easy for you, especially if you enjoy reading in Chinese.  However, if you are willing to try it and try more, it will be easier and easier for you to read in Chinese.  Also, if you can read out loud, you can hear your own voice.  It will be even better.

(2)Please try to read the handout and figure out what exactly it says and means tonight.  We will have more discussion tomorrow.  Freedom is a evergreen topic in every generation and everywhere.  You can find a lot of true stories in the history to prove that Freedom is important to every human being.  How much price are you willing to pay to ensure your own freedom?  Please think about it.

(3)I hope you can pay more attention in the class.  Therefore, I may not put my powerpoint file on the Internet.  Please take some notes in the class.  Don't wait for my powerpoint.

Homework
(1)Read the handout and figure out the meaning of those words.
(2)Find some true stories in the history about people who fought for their freedom

2012/11/21(三) communication book

The main point today
(1)No any numbers and letters can identify a person.
(2)What is constitution?
(3)R.O.C. constitution--Right to Equality

Reminders
(1)If you haven't handed in your midterm test paper, please turn in the test paper with your parent's signature on it.
(2)Please correct your midterm exam.  The correction is for yourself, not for me.  It is irresponsible in learning if you choose not to correct your errors.  You should be responsible for what you are learning and what you put into your brain.
(3)Today I gave you a question to think about, please spend some time tonight thinking about my question and share with your classmates tomorrow.

Homework
(1)A question to think about--What will happen if everyone is not equal?  Is there any thing that happened before or is happening for people don't have equal rights before the law?
(2)If you are interested, you can figure out why we should say, "right to equality", but not "right of equality".

Midterm test paper

Dear students,

I read the worksheet you wrote yesterday.  Some of them are pretty good.  Some of them need to be improved.  I will talk about it tomorrow.

       Here I would like to remind you that you should turn in the midterm test paper.  Before you hand in your test paper, please correct it and have your parent's signature on it.  Please don't hesitate to spend time correcting essay questions.  The more you think about it, the more you can really learn from it.   The time you spend on correcting and thinking is worthy;

By the way, two groups didn't turn in the A3 worksheet about the basic human rights a citizen should have.  Please hand in that worksheet to me tomorrow.  Thank you very much/

       See you tomorrow.

Savannah

About midterm

Dear My CSS students,

You all knew about the result of your midterm exam.  I am sorry that I need more time to check my comments for you.  I will return the test paper to you tomorrow.  Please bring it home tomorrow and hand in it to your parents tomorrow.

I hope you focus more on what you have answered and that you can really learn the concepts we'd gone through.  If possible, I also expect that you will spend some time thinking about what I mentioned in the class.

I am worrying about you and about the way you think.  It is not wrong, but the way most of you think won't make your life better.  I will talk about it more later in our classes.

Tomorrow we will move on and start a new lesson.  Hope you will be ready for it.  See you tomorrow!

Savannah

p.s. Please turn in the review test tomorrow.  Please correct it before you turn in.

About Midterm Exam

Dear CSS students,

How are you this weekend?  Are you ready for the midterm exam?  I hope you all are doing well now.

I will make a bilingual test for you and I will make sure the English part will be much clearer.

What you need to do is to study what we've talked about in the class.  Just as what I always mentioned, don't just memorize everything.  It doesn't help.  Please try to think about the concepts we've discussed.  And use wh-questions to check if you really understand those concepts in the textbook.  Don't forget that you need to relate the topic to yourself.  That's why you learn CSS for.

For example, for Unit 1, we talked about "Group".  What should you know about a group?   And how     is "group" related to your own life?  After you study Unit one, you should be able to answer the following questions:
      (1)What is a group?
(2)Why do people need to live in a group? What can a person benefit from a group?
(3)What are the differences between the life alone and the life in a group?
(4)What types of groups are there?   What do people do in different types of the group?  How do the different types of group work?
(5)What groups do you belong to?  What's your role in these groups?
(6)What's the right attitudes you should have when you are in a group?
(7)Why do you join these groups?

Of course, there are much more questions you can come up with.  If you have clear idea about this topic and you got your own thoughts, you can answer all the questions, no matter what they are.

Don't memorize, but understand and think.

Good lucks!  Let me know if you have any questions through E-mail.
