About midterm

Dear My CSS students,

You all knew about the result of your midterm exam.  I am sorry that I need more time to check my comments for you.  I will return the test paper to you tomorrow.  Please bring it home tomorrow and hand in it to your parents tomorrow.

I hope you focus more on what you have answered and that you can really learn the concepts we'd gone through.  If possible, I also expect that you will spend some time thinking about what I mentioned in the class.

I am worrying about you and about the way you think.  It is not wrong, but the way most of you think won't make your life better.  I will talk about it more later in our classes.

Tomorrow we will move on and start a new lesson.  Hope you will be ready for it.  See you tomorrow!

Savannah

p.s. Please turn in the review test tomorrow.  Please correct it before you turn in.

  1. Dear Ms. Savannah,

This is Leo Sun's mom from 6B. I was disappointed to see Leo's CSS midterm since CSS has always been an "easy" subject for me. I was suprised to see what he missed on multiple choices because these are "common sense" questions. I am glad that you made these essay questions where they had to think through their answers first. One quick question about what a student can/cannot buy without parents' permission. Leo was confused about buying movie tickets since that's something we don't allow him to do without our permission. I guess he just wants me to make a point to you the reason behind his answer.

Thank you for your hard work and making CSS a life-learning experience!

    1. Dear Leo's mom,
Thank you very much for visiting my website and leaving this message.
Leo was doing great in the class in the past two months. However, I thought it was a little bit challenging and difficult for most of kids in my CSS class when they were answering my questions. I guess it was because they thought CSS was easy and what they needed to do was to memorize everything in the textbook. Moreover, they didn't answer questions like this very often and they didn't think about something seriously. Maybe Leo thought in this way, either.
I want to change that and I want to challenge the way they think. I want to enforce them to think more and deeper. The discussion in the class and the essay questions in the test are the first step. I hope they will help kids to really "think".
As for the question about movie ticket, I think I should have set the question more carefully. Actually, I'd expected the kids could answer that according to their own experience and their friends'. During daily conversation, they might have a lot of chances to talk about the experience of watching movie. And I often saw our IBSH students watching movie together in Hsinchu downtown. That's why I expected kids could make right decision about this item. I am sorry to make Leo feel upset when he answered this question according to his own condition.
Thank you very much for your support. I will try harder to make my CSS course an useful and challenging lessons about life and thinking for all the kids.

      Savannah
